Doom and Gloom -new Rolling Stones single

The Rolling Stones released Doom and Gloom today, the first single from their forthcoming album, GRRR! Doom And Gloom marks the first time that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood have been in the studio together for seven years. The single was recorded in Paris and produced by longtime Rolling Stones producer Don Was, who has worked with the band on five previous albums (Voodoo Lounge/ Stripped/ Bridges To Babylon/ Licks Live/ A Bigger Bang), with the radio mix produced by Jeff Bhasker.

The Greatest Hits collection album is due out November 12/13 and is expected to produce high expectations and anticipation – The Stones are still current, hip, energetic and relevant despite the fact that Mick turns 70 next year!

We had a listen to the new song on their Youtube (see embed below) and our thoughts:

  • good hard Rock we’ve come to expect from The Stones
  • song takes you in a direction you did not expect – love that
  • song has a social conscience and a message without being depressing or maudlin – look for it
  • song hits on current affairs and political hot topics which shows us that the band is living in the now, not the past (no Golden Oldies nostalgia act here)
  • danceable! Singable. Makes you want to move to the hard beat

Off to listen to it again! Let us know what you think.
