Pigeon Park Serves up a Confusing Single, “Sunlight Fading Away”
It’s TWO, TWO songs in ONE!
written by Scotty Evil

Vancouver rockers Pigeon Park have released a lyric video for their new single “Sunlight Fading Away” and I finally got some time to collect my thoughts about it.

There is no doubt these guys are becoming a very polished act. I’ve seen them live; they have chops and skills. They are the real deal and thoroughly enjoyable to watch. But the song writing keeps leaving me a little short. Ugh, I hate having to write this about some guys I like so much (who are overdue to have a beer in the pub where I gig every weekend) but I have to be HONEST.

First thoughts.

Wow, what a great hook off the intro! It’s The Offspring!

Punk antiestablishment lyrics and a quirky guitar riff. I dig it. But wait, what’s this?

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS CHORUS?!? WHO LET CHAD KROEGER IN THE BUILDING!!!
(Oh god I’m so sorry guys that I had to say that. Argh.)

So it’s a fantastically produced toe-tapping kinda punk song with a Nickelback chorus stuck in the middle.

Guys, write ONE song not TWO. Seriously, I want to open Protools and cut the chorus out. Then it’s a fantastic song!

I have been waiting years for a Vancouver band to break out of the 604 Records production mold and do something really original. Guys this is close, but please please get away from the production cliches.

Woulda been a 5. Chorus makes it a 3.5

I’ll even buy you guys the beer next visit, I feel that bad.

ps The video itself is nothing to write home about. Seen some creative videos, this one’s just meh.
