Bif Naked strips down for Songs and Stories from the Heart

Bif Naked has alway been a mesmerizing, quirky, straight from the hip sort of person both on and off stage and so when we heard she was coming to the Okanagan, we had to check out her performance! With her new book, I Bificus, out a few short months ago, the show combined readings from the book with acoustic songs and witty banter and rolled it into an evening of pure hilarity and honest heart issues.

Playing Kamloops’ Blue Grotto, Bif (with new husband Snake aka Steve) entranced the audience from beginning to end — not just the die hards sitting at the cafe style tables up front, but even the party animals who were in the sold out standing room only venue near the bar and the back. Bif Naked chose stories about her parents (who marched with Martin Luther King Jr), a horrifying story about being a runaway and almost ending up in an underage trafficing operation (thank goodness for hero Norman the cabbie), and funny stories about her first marriage (as she gently teased her current husband Snake sitting beside her), life on tour as a novice, and her battle with breast cancer. The stories were told with a different voice for each, depending on the tone of the tale – and often explained where Bif‘s songs came from throughout the years. In between each story we were treated to the songs – and with only a guitar to accompany her, Bif‘s vocals stood out loud and true… such a powerhouse for a tiny lady!

By the end of the nearly 2 hour set, the crowd had thinned out a little – but surprisingly not much! Cheers from us and shy smiles from Bif Naked on stage (you guys are so so nice to me, thank you!), and the announcement that Ms Naked would sign her book at the merch table after the show. Most concert goers already had books, but those that did not, purchased I Bificus and all waited patiently in line as Bif not only signed each book but spent a bit of time with each fan (more than the usual 30 seconds!) talking to them like old friends.

Special mention to opener Jordan Alexander. THIS is one opening artist you don’t want to miss. “I’m a teenage dirt bag baby.” — go. You’ll understand that 😉

Bif Naked is currently on tour heading east and the shows have been selling out fast! Check out her tour schedule HERE. Many thanks to the Blue Grotto for hosting in such a great space (and happy 10th anniversary month!) and to Jelly Promotions for bringing Bif Naked to town. Such a great evening!
