Bif Naked is one busy person! The Gold and Platinum selling Canadian rock star — not to mention author, songwriter, manager, producer, and human and animal rights activist – has unveiled a new venture under her expansive wing with the launch of her new organic CBD boutique, MonaLisa Healing.
Touted as the ‘Renaissance of CBD’, the online shop celebrated its North American debut throughout both Canada and the U.S. in the Fall of 2019. Specializing in premium organic, triple lab tested and verified all-hemp cannabidiol, MonaLisa Healing is set to extend their exclusive product line to the United Kingdom and Europe this February, and Australia and New Zealand in April.
We appreciate Bif Naked taking time out of her full schedule to chat with us via telephone, about this new chapter in her life.
nMC: Hello Bif! Thanks for speaking with us. Tell me about this new venture you’re involved in now?
Bif Naked: Ultimately it was something that was kind of by accident. When I was in breast cancer treatment I met a lot of other patients who were taking CBD oil, or taking Cannabis to help mitigate their side effects or other ailments or symptoms. As far as the patients I met taking the CBD tinctures, they seemed to have a lot of their anxiety alleviated and that’s the first time I had heard about CBD. I didn’t think much about it until last year when my manager and his wife were becoming interested in the CBD industry as a whole; it impacted their lives because their daughter (my god daughter) has Lyme disease and they discovered CBD was useful for her pain and headaches and whatnot. They started taking it themselves for sciatica, and sleeplessness and such, and then my sister took it for her knee – she’s waiting for a knee surgery. And it’s easing her symptoms of inflammation.
These people who I know and love, are being helped and I know its not psychosomatic. I was astonished. So my husband Snake started taking it for sleeplessness and it helped tremendously… this is a fellow who’s never tried a drug in his life; never even smoked a cigarette ( laughing: I told him if he wasn’t so mean and nasty I’d have no respect for him). I was sold on it… it was just so useful, and there’s so much research on it.
And now in Canada with legalization of marijuana, the Cannabis industry is exploding! That’s also true for nutro-ceuticals; vegan protein powders, sea minerals, olive leaf oil to turmeric powder – we’ve probably all done it all. The “latest trend”, which is great, but as a result there’s a lot of garbage on the market. There are no people policing the things you can order on line. I didn’t want my mom or my sister to buy garbage, so MonaLisa was very appealing to me because it was pure and organic and tested.
For me as a Straight Edge girl I was more interested in the healing aspect of the hemp plant than anything else, although I fully support anyone that likes a little THC. It’s not about that – I’ve always been 100% about legalization, but price equity has always been a big deal with me. I don’t think it should be just sold in rich people boutiques only available to certain people. I think it should be available to everybody. That’s why we just have tinctures. Because it is pure, you can add it to your own lotion or put it directly on your skin. You don’t have to pay a high price for lotion – you can make your own affordable lotion. We always say put CBD tincture directly under your tongue because it’s the most bio-available method in our experience. It’s exciting because it goes hand in hand with my wellness advocacy as far being vegan, trying to stay healthy, yoga and meditation – its just another aspect of that ideology.
nMC: Cool. So have you loaned your name to MonaLisa? Are you directly involved? How does it work with Bif Naked?
Bif Naked: It’s me and partners; people who I know and love. We’re squares man (laughs). We’re devoted to safety and I want to make it affordably priced to everyone. We’re going to be rolling out different discount codes; we want to make it discounted to veterans for example. I want to partner up with animal charities that I’m into and maybe we can have a code for them where a percentage of sales go to that charity. It’s very simple and its very aligned with how I want to be in my philosophy. If my name can help get the word out about this product then I think that’s amazing
We have trusted and respected growers in BC we know; we source our organic hemp directly from these growers we know. As far as our carrier oil, it’s simple. Its organic coconut oil, so they’re getting the benefits of the carrier oil AND the CBD oil. All our products are triple tested, and everything is done in Government approved facilities.
nMC: I love the idea of discounts for veterans and partnering with charities. Will MonaLisa be online only or will it be available in Cannabis stores?
Bif Naked: People my mother’s age certainly are not comfortable with CBD because they think its ‘pot’ and those who need it are certainly not comfortable with going into a retail storefront. I think of my mother or my sister who want to try CBD for their pain, and they’re going to turn to the Internet. You can buy anything from a non-government approved website nowadays… you can buy snake oil called CBD that isn’t CBD or is even dangerous to use. That’s why we’re online. Hopefully as time goes on people will understand about the products: its not about brand – its about quality and purity. I know with certainty our product is organic and pure.
nMC: Will MonaLisa Tinctures be available in different strengths?
Bif Naked: Definitely! We will only do tinctures, like I said I’m not messing around with crèmes and such. Our product is pure and you can add it to what you have at home (hand crème) or you can put it directly on your skin. We’ll have a 750 Tincture (good for pets, kids, entry level option), 1500 Tincture is a great option for anxiety, pain, insomnia or other chronic ailments, and the 3000 Tincture is anyone who is having say migraines, fibromyalgia, etc. And this is of course providing your doctor says you can take it.

nMC: Sounds like an exciting venture!
Bif Naked: It is! I feel like its a natural extension of what I already believe in, in regards to health and lifestyle. I’m excited about it.
