Welcome to our second instalment of Artists’ Ink! This month we’re featuring Bravehart, lead singer of Tasman Jude and his exciting story of his favourite tattoos.
Ever since I was 13 years old, I knew I wanted to get a tattoo. In fact, the second tattoo I ended up getting is the first tattoo I knew I wanted. I knew at 14 that I wanted it but waited ’til I was 20 to make it permanent.
To me, tattoos are a way of expression. It’s so beautiful that someone can use their body as art. Growing up in a very religious community in the Caribbean, I always thought that Tattoos were sinful and ‘demonic’ but as my understanding of the love and grace of God grew, so did my freedom. Hence, I now have 4 tattoos and I’ve never loved God so much before, in my life. I keep my tattoos meaningful to my relationship with God.
The first one I got was ‘Christ is Risen’ in Greek, on my right arm; boldly displaying my beliefs.
The second tattoo I got was on my upper back of an Eagle (with the verse Isaiah 40:31 in mind) it’s not finished yet but being a musician wasn’t my financial choice, it was my love choice, you know?
My third tat was a matching tattoo with 2 good friends, 1 of whom has since betrayed and abandoned me, but my love for him is still strong! It says ‘Los que esperan a Jehova tendran nuevas fuerzas’ which is ‘They who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength’ in Spanish. It’s on the right side of my stomach and it was very painful.
My fourth tattoo is the most loved by many… It’s unique and impactful to many. It says ‘Faith’ and then upside down it says ‘Hope’. The explanation is quite simple, Faith is my every day walk, and my Hope comes from the Most High. So as I life my arms to Him in exaltation, everyone can read on my arm where my Hope comes from!
I have quite a few more tattoo ideas and as years go by, I know that they will come to pass, but for now… I’ll sing my heart our with Tasman Jude, rap my heart out as Bravehart and continue to love God, everyone and what I’ve been called to do.
Bless’ed love
