The Hip Celebrate Canada Day with 16,000 Fans
written by Orest Dorosh
There might be something tragically nostalgic behind touring a 20+ year old album. But that did not seem to bother the 16,000 fans who packed into the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto on Wednesday night. And The Hip did not disappoint their faithful on Canada Day even though there have been two earlier appearances in Toronto on this tour. This is the Tragically Hip and few bands could be more fitting on our national birthday.
Gord Downie appeared to be himself with his spasmic-like dancing and his white handkerchief hanging out his back pocket, while the rest of the band remained rather stationary and let him have all of the attention. The highlight of the evening was when the crowd lit up the theatre with their cellphones during Wheatkings.
When Fully Completely drew to an end they encored with another handful of their hits from their career such as At Transformation, Poets, Long Time Running, Bobcaygeon, Little Bones.
