Fans of Eagles of Death Metal have set up a campaign to encourage people to buy the band’s cover of Duran Duran‘s ‘Save a Prayer’, “to show solidarity against terrorism and support for peace.” (according to the Facebook group page, which has over 10,000 followers. “We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of ‘Save a Prayer’ to the UK No. 1 spot as a show of support to the band and all those affected, the group said.
Duran Duran are the royalty holders of the song and singer Simon Le Bon has stated that the band will donate all proceeds of the sale of the cover by Eagles of Death Metal to charity, saying on Twitter the band would be ‘considering options that are useful, peaceful and uniting.”
The song is currently at #7 in the iTunes charts and #1 on Amazon (at the time of this writing). The U.K. singles chart closes at one minute before midnight on Nov. 19, and the group is hoping the song reaches #1 by then – its currently at #7.
