Chris Koster Spaceman rockin new single
After 21 yrs in the same home, Chris Koster was suddenly ‘renovicted’ (evicted so the building owner can renovate and up the rental fees). Koster did what any driven musician does when life goes sideways – writes a song. Spaceman is Koster’s most rockin’ tune to date, and I love it.
The opening clash of drums hits you right in the heart, and the acoustic guitar that morphs into twangy electric is superb. Slide guitar? and backing harmonies twist together and you’re not sure where one starts and the other ends – the intro is one of my favourite parts of the song actually.
Koster is a brilliant lyricist “I’m a spaceman, I need my space, man….” – no cliches (which is difficult considering the song is called Spacemen), and his vocals are crisp and clear. The tune has this boppy, toe-tapping feel to it that belies the subject it was written around. The piano in the bridge is a great touch too.
Most know Chris Koster as the lead guitarist for Kingston Ontario’s The Glorious Sons, but Koster is an accomplished songwriter and musician in his own right, having released 2 full length albums and 4 singles, and an album under the moniker Space Cadet. Performing on keyboard, guitar and vocals, Koster continues in the solo artist tradition of the likes of Gary Newman and Prince – self-contained and self-produced.
