Toronto takes on Canadian Music Week
Canadian Music Week has hit Toronto and the sold-out hotels (as in, every hotel in the city) aren’t the only ones in for a crazy week. With NXNE changing its format this year, this may be your only chance to grab a wristband and act like a VIP as you hop from venue to venue checking out the festival’s offerings.
This year boasts an impressive lineup of homegrown talent. Bigger acts include Lights and Tegan and Sara, with a secret headliner to Friday’s Mod Club show still to be announced. But many artists also come from across the globe. Talent stretches from the USA, to Europe and Asia – the beauty of the week is getting the chance to discover music you otherwise might not.
If you’re like me and looking to add a little something new to your repertoire while still keeping to the week’s ‘Canadian’ title, Montreal label Bonsound is hosting a showcase this Friday, May 6th at The Great Hall.
From romantic indie to new age hip hop to party anthems then good ol’ rock n’ roll, the label has something for just about anyone with ears. The evening is sure to be entertaining and a great way to check out the raw talent our favourite francophone neighbours have to offer.
Check out the lineup below and treat your ears to a sample of the night via Bonsound’s spotify playlist:
9 PM- Safia Nolin (Quebec City singer with pipes like Bon Iver)
10 PM- Les Deuxluxes (pure unabashed rock n’ roll)
11 PM- Lisa LeBlanc (searing punk rock banjo and high energy Americana vocals)
12 AM- Dead Obies (experimental post-rap hiphop collective)
1 AM- Radio Radio (stylish Franglish dance floor hiphop kings)
