Not many bands or musicians make it to any kind of 50th anniversary; guitar legend Uli Jon Roth however goes even further with his latest tour.
“Triple Anniversary World Tour” starts with celebrating the fact he has been performing on stages for over 50 years now. But it’s also the 40th anniversary of the epic double-live album “The Tokyo Tapes” released just after he left German metal icons the Scorpions. Including timeless tracks In Trance and Fly to the Rainbow, it’s an important piece of music history in which the listener can actually discern the fork in the road, with Uli Jon Roth carrying on as the other members of the Scorpions went the more commercialized hard rock route.
This is when the ground-breaking Electric Sun period mesmerized guitar players across the world as he took the instrument to new levels. Blazing a trail for players such as Eddie Van Halen, Satriani, Malmsteen and others to incorporate classically inspired arpeggios and scales, he combined technical mastery with intense melodies.
From his press release: “It has been more than 30 years since Uli performed the music of Electric Sun in the UK in an unforgettable series of shows which included Hammersmith Odeon, Manchester Apollo and Newcastle City Hall. After all these years, Uli has now taken a fresh look at this unique material, drawn from the altogether three Electric Sun albums: Earthquake, Fire Wind and Beyond the Astral Skies.”
It was also Joe Satriani, a virtuoso in his own right, who jumped at the opportunity to bring Uli onto the European leg of his G3 tour recently. Out of all the guitarists involved, Satriani was impressed by Uli Jon Roth the most.
While his fans will of course be treated to interpretations of Hendrix, his biggest influence, it is the bridge of this world and that of classical music that makes him unique. This concert will reflect that as Uli will play excerpts from his stunning Metamorphosis of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons Concerto.
He will tour North America with his hand-picked band; Niklas Turman on lead vocal in combination with Corvin. Guitarist David Klosinski will round out the triple harmonies and intricate arrangements.
And of course guitar enthusiasts will be ogling the iconic and original Sky Guitar; allowing Uli to play the 6 octave range and do Vivaldi justice. Those with deep pockets can now buy the UJR Sky Guitar direct from his website…they are frankly too pricey to be featured in your corner music store.
But for now, you can witness the legend himself with some mind-blowing compositions. This is a once in a lifetime show and not to be missed.
