A few days ago while scrolling through Instagram we became aware of a great new song from John Shambles, called Fool in the Woods. For those not in the know, John Shambles is the brand new side project of The Glorious Sons frontman, Brett Emmons (aka Bremmons, aka John Bremmons). ‘Shambles‘ comes from a childhood nickname, and also his handsome pooch Shambles, featured in the video for Fool in the Woods.
As Brett stated in an Instagram live, he was “tired of bringing the band ballads” and decided to start a side project – and we’re very thankful! The lyrics cut deep; love and loss and a man driven to pondering relationships and life choices –
“I’m just figuring out whose big idea this was.
Fuck it I’d rather be drunk I’d rather be dead before I just become
Another fool in the woods
It’s not so bad and that’s the worst part of it…”
The new song (and video) is available on Youtube (see below), and the usual streaming platforms, and for a bonus, follow John Shambles on TikTok where Brett is currently dropping (unannounced) snippets of new songs.
For many, Fool in the Woods was an instant ‘love’, for us, it was a ‘grower’ and a week later I’m finding myself subconsciously humming it while doing mundane chores. It’s got a hold on me and been stuck in my head since the moment I first listened.
