Dallas Smith just released a new tune (and video) called ‘Rhinestone World’ and its typically Dallas Smith. Well written, well sung, feel good but not sappy. But it’s a little more than that. It’s complicated. It doesn’t rhyme exactly match-matchy (which is amazing in of itself). It isn’t easy to sing on first listen. It likely won’t become a live show ‘anthem song’ but that’s what’s appealing about it for us – not all songs need to be written with ‘hit’ in mind – sometimes a song should mean something.
Dallas Smith is one of the few artists (Sam Roberts being the other) who can take a huge mouthful of words, and sing them out without stumbling or losing the focus of the feeling of what those lyrics are trying to say.. and in ‘Rhinestone World’ it works.
