Michael Schenker Fest visits Vancouver’s Vogue April 22

For the second time in a month, Vancouver metal and rock fans get treated to legendary guitar prowess that ironically started with a band that hasn’t visited our city in 12 years. But I digress.

It seems like ages ago that Michael Schenker got his start with German rock icons the Scorpions but it is the path that veered away from that band and others that have defined his career. Could you imagine if he had actually joined Aerosmith or Ozzy Osbourne?

Fast forward to the present where the wielder of the recognizable black and white flying V has yet another incarnation, Michael Schenker Fest. It’s a rotating mic, with singers Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet, Robin McAuley and Doogie White along with Steve Mann on guitars and keys and former MSG drummer Bodo Schopf coming in to replace the tragic loss of Ted McKenna.

Michael states, “We are very grateful to Bodo for being a team player and working out with Simon what needs to be done in order for us to continue as smooth as possible and also to Simon for helping us to make it all possible. Bodo is the perfect choice to continue as the permanent drummer for Michael Schenker Fest. It is a perfect balance between the musicians from the past. It includes everything as a family to continue Michael Schenker Fest.

The debut album for this project. “Resurrection”, is reflective of this vocal variety and pulls style and composition from a range of Schenker’s projects. Everything from heavy riffs, funky jams and of course soaring solos.

With 3 straight nights at Whisky a Go-Go under their belts, expect a tight performance with a ton of material to draw from. “Resurrection” is an ironically poignant title, given the recent passing of Ted McKenna and Paul Raymond of UFO. Michael Schenker has always come back from the challenges in his career and returned to the stage, flying V in hand.
