Sam Roberts Band Projection
Sam Roberts Band never let the moss grow under their feet, and even though their new album is due out next week, they today released the official new video ‘Projection’ one of the pre-released singles off the new album, The Adventures of Ben Black.
Truth be told, this song didn’t really resonate with me when it first came out – listening to it on streaming just didn’t do it for me. Holy Hannah, the video really punched it up a notch.. seeing a song live often times does that for me – and really, this new video is almost as good as the live experience.
Featuring a solo Sam Roberts in front of a ‘Projection’ screen (what else), dressed in casual blazer and crisp white shirt, the video is displayed mostly behind and on him as he sings the song. There are many flashbacks to the SRB highlights both videos and live action interspersed with album covers and concepts, and home movies, adding atmosphere to the lyrics of the song. While many bands are introducing the obligatory 20 yr anniversary boxed sets etc, this trip down memory lane is as fresh as fresh can be. The song is very personal to Roberts who doesn’t have to ‘act’ – the looks on his face at times are genuine, including moist eyes at one point. This video is awesome to put it plainly.
